Our Ultimate Mood Boosting List of Foods!
Blogged by: Parkmore Shopping Centre 18 May 2016
With winter just around the corner there will be less sun and we don’t know about you but it can really affect our mood!  To combat the end of long summer nights and days at the beach, we have put together a list of hearth-healthy foods that nourish the body and spirit whilst boasting your mood (not to mention, they possess powerful anti-inflammatory properties to protect the body, brain and skin from the effects of aging!)

Put them in a recipe or eat them alone – delicious and good for you!

Salmon

Salmon is one of the world’s most heart-healthy sources of protein.  It’s rich in long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids which inhibits inflammation, acts as a natural depressant, increases feelings of well-being, helps the skin stay young AND protects the heart – it’s the perfect food!

Greens

Dark leafy greens are rich in antioxidants know as carotenoids. Carotenoids boost the immune system, cleanse the liver of carcinogens and other toxins and block sunlight-induced inflammation in the skin.

Parkmore Fruit and Veg Market has a large range of dark leafy greens from spinach to kale, the standard broccoli to the more obscure Swiss Chard.

Red Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon contains resveratrol which is a heart-healthy, anti-cancer, anti-aging antioxidant – what can boost your mood more than that!?  Red wine has also been link to reducing the likelihood of heart disease.

Extra-Dark Chocolate

Look for those 70% cocoa solids – they are the chocolates that are most likely to contain high levels of flavan-3-ols antioxidants.  Chocolate as you will know has strong mood elevating powers due to the competition  of typtophan, anadamide, theobromine, magnesium and phenlthlamine.  All big words that we don’t exactly understand but they have all been proven to boost moods (some are connected to serotonin another a mild cousin to caffine and a third that stimulates a chemical in the brain akin to marijuana).

Parkmore Grocer has a huge selection of dark chocolate –it’s quality and it’s delicious!
